How it all works . . . |
-
SLO Classical Academy follows an established core framework of a liberal arts education, meaning the educational emphasis is in four subjects for all students: math, language arts, history, and science. In addition, Latin and Logic are required classes for Middle School students.
-
After much research, committee feedback, and parent and teacher input, we select the curriculum in each subject area, establish the goals and objectivess for each subject and partner with the parents in the instruction of the subjects.
-
In addition to the core subjects, families are required to provide instruction in the following areas: spelling, penmanship, grammar, fine arts, and physical education. (Don't worry, its easier than it sounds!)
-
Families purchase materials required by the school to be used both in home instruction and site instruction.
-
On a weekly basis the site teacher defines the goals and guidelines for the class, sending an email to notify the families of what will be worked on both on site and at home.
-
Once a trimester, the families are required to submit a narrative progress report (we provide the forms and samples) and samples of each child’s work at home to be looked over and included in the child’s portfolio, maintained by the school.
-
There are ongoing opportunities to schedule an appointment with the site teacher to discuss your child’s work; discussions regarding how best to implement a lesson or motivate a child are examples of how to work best as a partner with the site teacher.
